Suge Knight Gets Knocked Out

Normally, at The-Raw.Com we don't really get into the whole 'TMZ-esque' type things, but I couldn't pass up on this one. Suge Knight, former owner of Death Row Records, which launched the careers of Dr. Dre, Snoop, 2Pac, Dogg Pound, Lady Of Rage was knocked out last night in a club in L.A. Here's some of the pictures from the incident.

The-Raw.Com Video Of The Day: DMX - Ruff Ryders' Anthem (1998)

The-Raw.com Video Of The Day is DMX "Ruff Ryders' Anthem". This is off of DMX's debut album It's Dark & Hell is Hot which was released in May 1998. I can't believe it's been 10 yrs since X released that album. This song of course was produced by Swizz Beatz. After this song, Swizz went on to produce tracks such as N.O.R.E. "Banned From TV" and Jay-Z's "Money Cash Hoes". Here is the video of the day

The-Raw.Com Video Of The Day: Da Youngstaz "Crewz Pop"

Today's video of the day comes from Da Youngstaz "Crewz Pop". Da Youngstaz were a group in 1993 from Philly that were some young dudes that were spittin hard' when all the other young boy groups weren't on that raw sh&t (Another Bad creation & Kris Kross). Enjoy the rawness of this video.

The Game - 911 Is A Joke

The Game releases a new track "911 is a Joke". I guess you can call this angry Game. The Game sounds like he's going on a rampage, don't expect this song to be on the retail of L.A.X. Times which drops on June 24th, with all the lyrics about killing cops. Especially not on Interscope after the Ice T Cop Killer saga in the 1990's. either way here's "911 is a Joke".

T.I. - No Matter What

New T.I. track "No Matter What". The track produced by Danjahandz where he addresses the people who want to see him fall after his arrest. T.I. sounds at peace on this track. Listen to T.I. "No Matter What".

The-Raw.Com Video Of The Day: Public Enemy - Can't Truss It (1991)

Classic P.E. video. Flavor Flav before he tried to find love on reality TV show. You see why he will go down as one of the best hypemen of all time. Also, the production by the Bomb Squad still sounds fresh nearly 20 yrs later. Chuck D, of course with his strong voice (no homo) and you can see why this was on the best groups ever to lay it down.

The Roots - Rising Down Album Review

Rating: B+

Grammy winning hip hop group returns with their latest album Rising Down. The album which features guest appearances from Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Saigon, Styles P among others is another consistent product from the Philadelphia group.

Some of the standouts on the album is "75 Bars" in which Black Thought straight up murders this track, it's definitely one of 2008 best displays of lyricism so far. On "Criminal" ft. Truck North and Saigon, the trio of Black Thought, Saigon, Truck North all show up and blaze the track. (though I think Saigon stole the show with his last verse) "Singin Man" is another track in which Truck North (I think) leaves a nice imprint on this track.

Of course, Black Thought doesn't slack on his performance and remains one of the most consistent vocalists. Black Thought has been going hard for 14 years and always remains a constant force and his wordplay doesn't disappoint. On "Birthday Girl", Thought drops a story about him getting his R. Kelly/To Catch A Predator on.

"Rising Up" ft. Chrisette Michelle and Wale is the lead single from the album. A song that addresses the current state of radio and is a nice alternative to it. Wale, from D.C., freshly signed to Def Jam is a perfect compliment to Thought on this track delivering lines like "we are the hope of culture they pose to listen/and i post and pivot like im forward in the league and Oden with it/like the olden niggas, nothing but potent lyrics/but if u aint got a dance they revoke to spin it/so good rappers aint eating they olsen twinnin".

Some of the downsides of the album is "Lost Desire", and "I Will Not Apologize", but with Black Thought as the lead emcee you are not going to have a weak album. Overall, this album is raw, I give it a B+. Album in stores tomorrow, April 29th.

Top 3 Gains
1. Jay-Z - +20 ($120,April; $100,March). Good month for Jigga, signed a new $100 million dollar deal, on tour with Mary J. Blige, and by the way got married to one of the hottest chicks in the game Beyonce'. Guess you can see why he had the biggest gain this month.

2. T.I. - +8 ($83, April; $75, March) This was a good month for T.I. He was facing felony charges and a uncertain future. The last month his legal woes became resolved. T.I. was sentenced to one year and 1,500 hours community service vs the 7 yrs he was facing for federal weapons charges. Also, he hopped on the #1 song in the country Usher's "Love In The Club" remix. Now that's a good month.

3. The Game - +7 ($57, April; $50, March) The Game released two new tracks from his upcoming album L.A.X. Times. The tracks "Pain" ft. Keyshia Cole and "Big Dreams" produced by Cool & Dre have been recieved pretty well. He also got one of his predictions right as Young Buck has officially been kicked out of G-Unit. Game has been saying that Buck would leave for a couple of years.

Top 3 Decliners
1. 50 Cent - -8 ($77, April; $85, March) 50 kicked Young Buck out of G-Unit this month. Which, I don't think will help him or his G-Unit records in the short term. Buck brought fans from the south, and with the Unit diminishing in the mainstream that didn't help. Also, the two singles that G-Unit released "Rider Pt.2" and "I Like The Way She Do It" aren't catching on either. Maybe next month will be better. I do think someone will buyout Young Buck's contract with the unit in the upcoming months, which will be good for both sides.

2. Beanie Sigel - -2 ($13, April; $15, March) Beanie was sentenced to three months in jail. for a probation violation. He also revealed because of his legal situation it's hard to promote and do shows, therefore he may lose his house. Hope Beanie gets his situation straight, cause Sig' is one of the rawest in the game, no lie.

3. Snoop Dogg - -2 ($68, April; $70, March) Snoop dropped his album Ego Trippin' which lacked critical and commercial acclaim. The first month of album sales haven't been on par with previous Snoop albums, but it could be because of the climate in the record industry. Also, his album didn't get good reviews. Personally, it's not as raw as I would like, but it's not terrible. It's worth a listen. "Press Play" is raw.

Here's a new track from Mariah Carey ft. Jay-Z & Jermaine Dupri - Bye Bye Remix

Usher ft. Beyonce & Lil Wayne - Love In This Club (Part 2 Remix)

New Usher ft. Beyonce & Lil Wayne - Love In This Club Part 2. I'm not going to rate it, but Lil Wayne needs to lay off the drugs and step it up. We need Carter I Wayne back. Anyway, here's Usher ft. Beyonce' and Lil Wayne - Love In This Club Remix

Kinfolk Kia Shine ft. Eightball & Young Buck "Kush"

Rating: B+

Kinfolk Kia Shine is back on the grind and comes back with a banga. He hooks up with Eightball again(they had a standout track "Bluff City Classic" on Kia Shine major label debut) and Young Buck.

This track is really fire, sort of in the same vein as Three 6's "Stay Fly" ft. Young Buck & Ball & G. The beat is on same flossed out spring time playa sh*t. Great springtime music. The only drawback on this track to me is the female crooner on the hook. Otherwise, definitely one of the standouts so far this springtime. Click here to listen to Kia Shine ft. Eightball & Young Buck "Kush"

Nas "Be A Nigger Too"

Rating : B+
Nas drops a track from his upcoming opus Nigger. The new track is called "Be A Nigger Too" produced by Salaam Remi. The track is sort of in the same vein as Ice Cube's slept on gem that he dropped last year "Gangster Rap Made Me Do It". Click here to download, Nas - "Be A Nigger Too"

Nelly ft. Akon "Body On Me"

Rating: C-

This is the second sneak peek from Nelly's upcoming album Brass Knuckles that drops in June. This track features Akon, personally it's not my cup of tea, but like Nelly said he doesn't really aim for the fellas in alot of his tracks.(which is good business move, females buy more albums and support you more than a male) The track isn't raw to me, but it's not terrible either. I just prefer something a little harder. Here's the track: Nelly ft. Akon "Body On Me"

Mariah Carey ft. R. Kelly - Touch My Body Remix

R. Kelly drops an unofficial remix to Mariah Carey's "Touch My Body". Kellz also announces on the track 12 Play: 4th Quarter album is coming soon. Click here to listen to track.

The Game ft. Keyshia Cole - Pain

Rating: B-

The Game drops the second taste from his upcoming album L.A.X. Times dropping on June 24th. On this track The Game does what he does best pay homage. Game pays homage to Nas, Jay, Will Smith, Uncle Luke, Ice Cube, Biggie, LL Cool J, the list goes on. Of course he does his name dropping, but as The Game says "that's what I do, if you don't like it. Don't listen to me". Nice track. Keyshia Cole on the hook. Listen to the track here The Game ft. Keyshia Cole - Pain.

Foxy Brown is Free!

Foxy Brown was released from Rikers Island today after serving eight months of her one year prison sentence. An hour after she was released Fox Boogie talked to Mtvnews "Oh man, it feels effin' incredible!" she said, explaining that she couldn't curse because her mother was in the car with her. "I'm so excited and so happy. I'm so happy to be home. My freedom. I have a whole newfound respect for my freedom. Little things I would take for granted. I'm like, 'Oh my God, a Snickers bar, oh my God!' It's an incredible feeling. I feel really good."

Foxy states she plans on going to church and "getting right with god", also attend a few welcome home parties and hit the studio in preparation for her upcoming album that drops on Koch Records.

The RAW View: It's good that Fox Boogie gets to come home and enjoy freedom. I don't wish incarceration on anyone. She's still young and maybe this bid will give her the hunger to bang out an enjoyable album. I'm looking forward to see what she comes with.

50 Cent Says Young Buck is a Cokehead

In the latest Young Buck Vs G-Unit news, 50 Cent ups the ante by airing out some of Young Buck's current activities supposedly. "Buck's probably high right now," he said, adding sarcastically, "He doesn't even get high anymore — he just maintains his [high]. You have to get sober to be high," 50 said. "When they say, 'Party like a rock star,' he goes beyond what they are talking about. Multiple, different sh--."

50 Cent also goes to say that the idea to kick Young Buck out the group was a group decision. "We feel the same way," Banks said. "If 50 gets resistance, we get the same resistance."

"50 took him and made him who he is today," Tony Yayo weighed in. "Where I'm from, you don't bite the hands that feed you. I just get confused. I just remember not having nothing. I never will bite the hand that feeds me." But u can still catch Young Buck on the upcoming G-Unit album being that the songs were done before the current fallout.

According to 50, Buck is featured on the album's first two singles, "Rider Part 2" and "I Like the Way She Do It," as well as a couple of other cuts from the project.
"He'll still be on those records," 50 said. "I wouldn't pull him off of the records. I like the records the way they are. He's on the [album] three or four times. He's not gonna be in the videos, but he can shoot [videos for] his solo project when he's done — when he gets himself together." taken from Mtvnews.com

The RAW View: Well, this is the latest shot of the war. As 50 said, look for Buck to record a diss track (rightfully so IMO, if 50 is airing out Buck's supposed drug problem publically).

Also, like I said Buck is still under contract but I suspect before the year is out another label will come in and do a joint venture with G-Unit for Young Buck solo services (Cash Money?). P.S. Isn't it funny how Yayo and Banks are so submissive when it comes to Fif, like they said themselves "don't bite the hand that feeds you"

Diplomats & Duke Da God Presents Harlem Classics

Rating: B+

The RAW View: The Diplomats & Duke Da God deliver what hardcore Dipset fans have been waiting on for years, CD Quality versions of various Diplomat songs that were previously only available on the legendary Diplomat mixtape series from 2001-2004. The Diplomats, in the early part of the decade held down the mixtapes and those mixtapes helped launch the careers of Juelz Santana and Jim Jones (also help relaunch Cam'ron back to public and to platinum).

If you haven't heard the mixtapes previously and never liked the Diplomats this Harlem Classics CD is a good introduction. On here, you can find Jim Jones deliver over a infectious vocal sample on my track that I always wanted a full version of "Questions". Also, you can hear what happens when a "Trap Muzik" T.I. hooks up with Cam and Juelz on the bangin' ass "Royalty" (Crown Me).

This tape is hard ass NYC music that's definitely missing from the marketplace right now. (Hint: Cam, Juelz, Jim go back in with the Heatmakerz and bring that hard sh*t back) For now, we can thank Duke Da God for releasing these treats. Go pick up the album in stores or amazon.com.

Nelly ft. Fergie "Party People" Video

New video from Nelly featuring Fergie "Party People". This is from Nelly's upcoming album "Brass Knuckles" which drops in June.
